One of the most fascinating things about hip hop music is that it was was originally a genre of music based upon DJ’s who created beats by looping breaks from other genres of music. With sampling being of the primary forms of creating music in hip hop, it has lead me to discover other genres of music from before my time that I would have never known about and it also lead me becoming a producer.
In 1974, BT Express (also known as the Brooklyn Trucker Express) released their debut LP Do It Til You’re Satisfied, which many might consider one of the greatest funk albums of all time. While it included had two number-one R&B and Top Ten pop hits in the title cut and “Express”, its influence, impact & DNA can be seen throughout the many different brands of hip hop from DMX, Truth Hurts, to EPMD & SWV.
