DJ Drama decided to like a more polished version of the track on twitter, apparently it’s not done yet.

“The leaked version was the version before I did hooks. And I broke up his verses. I named it million dollar baby cuz I’m wayne’s boxing coach on the song and its a three round fight. bells and all. Just blaze was gonna be the announcer at end but we never finished it.”-DJ Drama

I’ve been waiting for an official version of this for like a year and half…..glad it’s finally out.

How does he “represent the road he grew up by” when he’s still biting that philly slang…”Holla at the bull bitch, yes I’m the bull bitch.” Apparently he recorded this when the Gillie influence was still there. “FOR FUCKIN WIT THE BULLLLLLLLLL”

Game Declares R.E.D. Album The ‘Most Lyrical’ LP In Rap

Posted by Rtoda @ 9:29 am | Jul 28, 2009 | Posted under videos

“If you going by current status of the artist’s music, then, I mean, I gotta exceed,” Game said. “This album is the most lyrical of them all, this album is the most lyrical album, period, point blank. I can say that about The R.E.D. Album.

Does that mean there isn’t as much name dropping?

If All Else Fails…Just Do a Sequel

raekwon-obfcl-1-2-9-8

One of the most common marketing strategies in Hip Hop (& most notably Hollywood) is releasing a sequel to a defining project to live off one’s past success. When done effectively it’s dope, but when done poorly it’s definitely one of the corniest trends in hip hop. We’ve seen it time and time again where an artist is good at doing their thing and for whatever reason, whether they’d like to sell more records or they simply grow artistically, they decide to branch out and change their style to the point where they lost whatever it was that made them dope in the first place. Whether it’s dumbing down their flow to double their dollars (Jay-Z), simply changing producers (Raekwon), or turning into a completely different character for their subsequent albums (Esco & the knowledge kicking ass nigga, Nastradamus), a huge part of an artist is usually lost in this transition. In turn, many artists have fallen off to the point where they’re career is practically on the edge of cliff and thus many rappers find themselves trying to capture the greatness of their past. Nonetheless, a sequel to a classic rap album has simply all but become a last ditch effort by a hip hop artist to regain the prominence that they’ve had at the prime of their career. For others it’s simply a way of maintaining momentum from a previous standout project. Either way, unlike the movies, most of the time there’s just no strategic plan to releasing these sequels, there’s nothing that really ties the albums together, it’s just dope marketing. (Note: I wish more artist would be as creative as Kanye West in naming their album titles, coming up with a theme and sticking with it….you know College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation…Good As Job If that ever comes out…but it is what it is) History has shown us that no matter the genre of art, the sequel is never rarely ever better than the original (exceptions being Terminator 2 & arguably Godfather 2 & I’m sure you can find an example or two within rap). With the anticipation of Raekwon releasing Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 and Jay-Z releasing the third volume and final volume of the Blueprint trilogy this year, the young bull at The Jawn took a look at some of the greatest & most notable hip hop sequels of all time. We’ve heard the original version of this a while back, but this time around it the recently very popular Gucci Man on the track. This is definitely a banger, will spin really well in DC since it has a dope Go Go Feel. I’ll def be spinning this in a Go Go set.

Lord Sear Shade 45 – “Inside A Change” BTS

Posted by Rtoda @ 8:14 am | Jul 27, 2009 | Posted under movies

This movie seems dope. Directed by Rik Cordero. Maybe I’ll check out the screening for this. Anyway for those who don’t know the plot of this movie. Basically Chris Price is about to serve 180 days in prison for a first-time offense. When his mother invites him home for dinner, he finds his younger brother following in his footsteps and his older brother, Shawn disowning him. With his family falling apart, Chris is forced to re-examine his life and how he can bring everyone together for his mother’s birthday.  Even if the the movie sucks though, we know the Soundtrack will be dope with tracks from Wale, Consequence, Saigon, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Skillz, Royce the 5′9 and more.

Seeing that Black Rob released a new joint last week and my man Unkut through up six lost joints it only makes sense for me to post his old demo tape with Black Rob spitting over classics such as Children Story & Looking At the Front Door.
